Lumbini, in Nepal, is the birthplace of the Buddha, one of the most important spiritual sites in the world and attracts Buddhist pilgrims from all over the world.
In Lumbini you can visit over twenty five Buddhist monasteries built from different countries from Vietnam to France, study Buddhism, meditate and visit the place of birth inside the sacred Mayadevi gardens.

Mayadevi temple is the holiest site in the Lumbini garden where archaeologists have identified the exact spot where Lord Buddha was born. The inscriptions on the Ashoka pillar nearby also refer to the place as its birthplace. It is said that the newly born Prince Siddhartha took his first seven steps and brought his message of peace to humanity here.
The birth took place in the beautiful Sal Grove, which is now the focal point of the Lumbini Garden.
Walk in the garden or find a quiet place where you can meditate. The focal point for pilgrims is a sandstone sculpture depicting the birth of the Buddha, believed to have been left here by King Malla Ripu Malla, in the 14th century, when Mayadevi was worshiped as an incarnation of a Hindu mother goddess.

The Lumbini Garden extends over three areas each of which covers a square mile connected with walkways and a canal.
