Visit Fatehpur Sikri the fortified city in Rajasthan

Fatehpur Sikri is a fortified city located about 40 kilometers from Agra and is one of the main attractions along the Agra-Jaipur route, in the Golden Triangle circuit.
Built by Akbar and capital of the Mughal kingdom for fifteen years and then quickly abandoned. Precisely for this reason we owe its nickname of ghost town.
Thanks to its architecture and its decadent beauty it is certainly a place worth visiting.

Fatehpur Sikri rests on inclined levels connected to each other with terraces that were used to reach the other complexes.
The efficient drainage and water supply system leads us to consider the urban plan of the Mughal emperor as extremely intelligent.

All these buildings were built in red sandstone in structures composed of pillars, ornamental arches, balconies, grated windows and so on. The architecture of Fatehpur Sikri contains all the characters of India, is a versatile Indo-Muslim composite style, a fusion of composite cultures of indigenous and foreign origins.

In the area of the building and residential the most important places are the Diwan i Am the palace of public audiences with its courtyard, overlooked by the Diwan i Khas, the palace of private audiences.
In the sacred part of the town there is the great Jama Masjid mosque among the largest in India with a capacity of about 10,000 faithful. The imposing Buland Darwaza and the Badshani Darwaza are accessed from the flies. Then there is the mausoleum of Salim Chishti, which dominates the northern half of the courtyard and is fronted by a basin, an authentic masterpiece in shimmering white marble, and again the Buland Darwaza, the triumphal door built to celebrate the victory in Gujara.

Historically in 1586, suddenly after about thirteen years Fatehpur Sikri was abandoned. The reasons are not very clear. Some add to a sudden lack of water, but this would be an implausible reason. The hypothesis that once again military strategic motivations have justified the sudden abandonment of the city is more concrete.
After the sudden departure of Akbar the city was practically abandoned and in the following centuries only short stays are remembered, but in fact it was no longer capital and no longer relived the pomp of the years of Akbar.
At the beginning of 1900 a restoration was carried out on the initiative of the British kingdom.
