On the hill of Shatrunjaya, there are in fact 863 sculpted marble temples that adorn the two peaks of the hill and the ridge that joins them. To get to the top of the hill it is necessary to climb the approximately 4000 steps.
From the top of Shatrunjaya Hill there is a good view of Khambhat Bay and the surrounding countryside.
A curiosity about Palitana is that it is the only city in India where meat is prohibited because religion does not allow the slaughter of animals. Palitana is a town where vegetarianism has been imposed.
