Somnath a city of temples

Somnath is an important pilgrimage and tourist site of Gujarat because it is a Triveni Sangam, that is, the confluence of three sacred rivers: Kapila, Hiran and Sarasvati.

Somnath is an important pilgrimage and tourist site of Gujarat because it is a Triveni Sangam, that is, the confluence of three sacred rivers: Kapila, Hiran and Sarasvati.
Primarily a city of temples, Somnath also offers other attractions. Places to visit in Somnath draw their identity from Hindu myths and religion.

Somnath Temple
The finely carved honey-colored Somnath Temple at the western end of the state is believed to be the site of the first of the twelve jyotirlinga saints in India, a place where Shiva appeared as a fiery pillar of light.
Somnath Temple is located at the meeting of the Kapila, Hiran and Sarasvati rivers and the waves of the Arabian Sea ebb and flow touching the shore on which it is built.
The ancient temple can be traced back to 649 BC, but it is believed to be earlier than that date.
Colorful dioramas from Shiva's story line the north side of the temple garden, though it's difficult to see them through the veiled glass. A one-hour sound and light show highlights the temple every evening at 7.45pm.
Somnath Temple on the west coast of Gujarat is believed to be the first of Shiva's twelve jyotirlinga shrines.

Bhalka Teerth
Bhalka Teerth is one of the most magnificent temples in the city of Somnath. Bhalka Teerth temple is known as Mahaprabhuji's Bethak and a tulsi tree was planted in honor of Lord Krishna. Banyan trees dot the courtyard of the spectacular sandstone Krishna temple. Inside the shrine there is an unusual idol of Shri Krishna in a semi-recumbent position. The temple also contains a beautiful tribhangi idol of Lord Krishna playing his flute.

Somnath Triveni Sangam
The Triveni Sangam marks the confluence of the Hiran, Kapila and Saraswati rivers, where they meet the Arabian Sea on the west coast. Triveni Sangam is said to be a place where Hindus can break free from the cycle of life and death. You can see a number of people praying or just experiencing the spiritual atmosphere sitting near the stairs.
